SLIS Student Awarded Ex Libris Student Writing Award

Karen Doerksen has been awarded the Ex Libris Student Writing Award for 2013. Her paper, entitled "A Sight to Be Held: Adapting Comics and Graphic Novels for Visual Impairment" explores how graphics and comics play a part in early literacy, and how these formats can be adopted for those that are visually impaired.

Heidi Hanson, and Regina Koury, committee members for the selection of this award have said the following: "Ms. Doerksen's paper illuminates the challenges and controversies surrounding this complex topic, and explores the possibilities inherent in emergent assistive technologies."
