Sarah Nadi embraces collegial computing science environment on campus.

Jennifer Pascoe - 17 October 2016

Meet Sarah Nadi, one of the Department of Computing Science's newest assistant professors. A software engineering researcher who focuses on software product line migration and detecting API misuse, Nadi is the first female faculty member to join the department in 18 years.

What attracted you to the University of Alberta's Department of Computing Science?

The Department of Computing Science at the U of A is one of the biggest computing science departments in Canada, with a large variety of research areas. I saw this as a potential for many interesting collaborations down the line. It also has a strong software engineering research team (which is my main area of research) so there's also opportunities for more focused collaborations and discussions. Another important aspect for me is that I wanted to end up in a place with a healthy work environment, and the department here felt very collegial and friendly.

What are you most excited for this fall?

Teaching my first course here! I'll be teaching a graduate course this fall related to my research area, and I'm very excited to start interacting with students here and hopefully being able to get interesting projects started out of the course.

How are you settling in to campus and the city?

Settling into campus was actually very easy. Getting everything into place was pretty straightforward, thanks to the information I got from various people here. As for the city, I've lived in much smaller cities for the past seven years so I'm still trying to find my way around different parts of Edmonton but it's been a good experience so far. I'm also trying to take in all the nice summer weather before winter comes along!
