Bachelor of Science

Understanding Science degrees

We offer four undergraduate degree types for you to choose from, each differing by their level of focus and academic expectations.

BSc / BEd COMBINED

The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education combine program is a five year degree for students wishing to teach secondary education in the sciences. Students select from seven major/minor combinations, and follow a specific course curriculum that will ultimately allow them to graduate with two degrees; a BSc Specialization degree as well as a Secondary BEd degree.

GPA range: a minimum 2.3 required to remain in good standing
Course load: Full time. A minimum 24 -30 credit course load is required.

GENERAL

The General program is very flexible and provides a diversified education in more than one branch of study.  Students must select a major and a minor (or double major) from a variety of topics, allowing them to design a program reflecting their unique interests and career goals.

GPA range: a minimum 2.0 required to remain in good standing

Course load: students may attend full-time or part-time.

SPECIALIZATION

The Specialization program provides a more focused education in one specific subject. Students take most of their courses in their main field of study, and follow a course curriculum developed by the associated teaching department. Some Specialization programs will provide the necessary background for admission to graduate school.

GPA range: averages vary by program, but tend to range from 2.3 - 2.7 to remain in good standing
Course load: Full-time. Most programs require a minimum 24 credit course load.

HONORS

The Honors program is primarily for students who seek careers in Scientific Research or plan to continue at the Graduate level. Similar to the Specialization program it provides excellent training in one specific subject and follows a pre-determined course curriculum. Honors students must maintain a higher standard of academic achievement than those in the Specialization or General programs.

GPA range: averages vary by program, but tend to range from 3.0 - 3.3 to remain in good standing

Course load: Full-time. Most programs require a minimum 24-30 credit course load.
