How InSciTE works

InSciTE is a blend of main stream courses and integrated learning.  You will attend traditional first year classes, but will also have access to our integrated Chemistry and InSciTE courses.

It does not matter which Science degree you have been admitted to. By signing up for InSciTE you are simply taking the same courses you were already planning to take, but in a more hands-on and interdisciplinary way.

  • A full course load includes 30 credits (*30) in a year
  • InSciTE covers *15 of those credits, leaving you free to choose your remaining *15 credits.

Step 1) Begin by choosing your stream of interest:

Life Science Stream             Students already taking: InSciTE students take What is the difference?

For students planning to take Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (Calculus) courses.

BIOL 107 BIOL 107 Same course content, but courses are taught using a blend of hands-on activities, interdisciplinary models and integrated methods
MATH 114 MATH 134
CHEM 101 CHEM 101 (special section)
STAT 151 *SCI 151 (Statistics included)

Physical Science Stream Students already taking:    InSciTE students take    What is the difference?

For students planing to take Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics (Calculus) courses.

PHYS 144   PHYS 144   Same course content, but courses are taught using a blend of hands-on activities, interdisciplinary models and integrated methods

All students accepted to InSciTE will take a special section of CHEM 101 (lecture and lab), along with SCI 151- Scientific Inquiry and Data Analysis. You can then register for a *3 credit option course to meet your program requirements or personal learning goals.

*Through SCI 151 you will engage in a series of interdisciplinary projects with themes that translate to issues that are important on the global stage. You will also explore fundamental and cutting edge topics from all of the major science disciplines including Earth and Atmospheric Science, Psychology, and Computing Science in addition to Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.

Step 2)
Apply for a spot in InSciTE.
You will need your CCID, which is assigned after you apply for admission to Science. Once you are offered a spot in InSciTE, we will help you register for the associated fall term courses.

Step 3)
Choose option courses for the Winter term
In the Winter term, you will continue with SCI 151. You can then register for up to *12 credits of option courses to meet your program requirements or personal learning goals. See our course registration guide here
