Gabrielle Jones, MSc. | DERTS Trainees

Degree program: MSc, University of Alberta

Supervisors: Graham Pearson & Luke Oates (BCGS)
Graduated: December, 2021

Gabrielle was a MSc student at the University of Alberta working under the supervision of Dr. Graham Pearson (DERTS) and Luke Ootes (British Columbia Geological Survey). Her research was completed in collaboration with the British Columbia Geological Survey on their multi-year Hogem batholith bedrock mapping project in north-central BC. The purpose of her study was to constrain crystallization ages and to develop a better understanding of the petrogenesis of the Hogem batholith, which is a multi-phase Mesozoic intrusion located in Quesnel terrane and is a host to several known copper-porphyry prospects. Her project involved analyzing a suite of samples from the batholith using mineral-scale isotope geochemistry, including U-Pb, Lu-Hf, oxygen-isotope, and trace element analyses.

During her BSc, Gabrielle conducted a directed study supervised by Dr. Derek Thorkelson (SFU) on several Cu-sulphide bearing hornblendite intrusions in the Hogem batholith. This study included detailed petrographic work and analyzation of whole-rock and mineral geochemistry to characterize the intrusions.
Gabrielle successfully defended her thesis in Dececmber 2021.
Gabrielle is currently working with Talisker Resources.
Internships: BC geological Survey, July -August 2019, Septmeber -December 2020
