In many ways, the Faculty of Science is a leader in teaching innovation. Of the 12 University of Alberta MOOCs, 11 are from the Faculty of Science. The Faculty of Science has more blended learning awards than any other Faculty.
However, like everything else we do, teaching innovation is a constantly moving target. In our first Teaching Professional Development Day, we focused on best practices. In our second, on digital learning. In this Teaching Professional Development Day, we have speakers from across the Faculty showcasing the breadth of teaching innovation that’s possible.
Similarly, as we reflect on our teaching, the importance of evidence informing our practice becomes apparent. After the break, we will look at a brief synopsis of the literature on how students learn science and math, as well as the supports within the Faculty of Science for pursuing scholarly approaches to teaching.
