Alex Makepeace

Alex Makepeace

Program: BSc, Specialization in Computing Science

Interests: Drawing, making music, and video games

Fun Fact: "I have a video game called Produce Panic that will be in the Latitude 53 art gallery from October to November."

"I love the puzzles science presents. There is nothing like the elation that comes from solving a puzzle or piece of code that's had you stumped. It is important to promote science to all kids, and especially young girls due to lack of diversity in some of these fields. By promoting diversity we can have more diverse creations and ideas. My enthusiasm for science makes me a great science mentor. I want kids to see how excited I am and find that drive too."

Farheen Salim

Farheen Salim

Program: BSc,Chemistry and Biological Sciences double major

Interests: Reading, dancing, and french fries!

Fun Fact: "I have been dancing since I was four years old."

"My favourite thing about science is doing experiments, hence the double major in chemistry and biological sciences. I think it's extremely important to promote science to young people because, in my opinion, science is the future and young people are also the future, so they basically go hand-in-hand. I believe science can be cool for everyone, regardless of age, and that's what drove me towards the science summer camps."

Riley Antler

Riley Antler

Program: BEd, Mathematics major and Computing Science minor

Interests: Dancing

Fun Fact: "I have been dancing for 14 years and teaching dance for the last 4 years. I have had the privilege of working children as young as three years old all the way up to 16 years old."

"I had never even heard of computer science until a grade nine field trip but after that, I was hooked. Over the last four years, I have loved learning how to work with various computer programs and actually program a computer with different languages to make it do exactly what I want. Although it can be frustrating at times, when a program finally works, it's the best feeling in the world."

Steffen Senchyna

Steffen Senchyna

Program: BSc, Specialization in Astrophysics

Interests: U of A Fencing Club and astro-photography

Fun Fact: "I'm bilingual and speak both English and Ukrainian."

"What I love most about science is being able to look up at all the crazy and mind blowing things in space and understand how all of it works. All of the kids going to summer camps are the next generation of scientists and engineers, and it's our duty as educators to set them up for success."

Storm Kaefer

Storm Kaefer

Program: BSc, Computing Science Specialization in Software Practice

Interests: Drums, playing music, and working on computers

Fun Fact: "I have superpowers."

"What I love about science is that it can relate to so many different things, and it gives us new ways and methods to achieve things we didn't even consider possible! Promoting science to young people is important, as science explains how things work, and by teaching science concepts at an earlier age, we can help kids figure out their passion sooner! I like to help excite young people and have fun, while still teaching them things!"
