Welcome to the Department of Secondary Education, one of the founding departments within the Faculty of Education. The Department has a long and rich history in preparing secondary school teachers, curriculum leaders, curriculum scholars and researchers, and subject area scholars, researchers, and teacher educators.
The Department is widely recognized nationally and internationally for its outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs. We offer classes, seminars, discussion groups and supervision, led by internationally renowned scholars and outstanding instructors. These opportunities provide members of our community to engage in thoughtful and critical scholarship into teaching, learning, curriculum theory, and educational research.
Graduates of our undergraduate and graduate programs teach in schools at all levels; serve as leaders in school districts, academies and organizations; and work as educational researchers and teacher educators in Alberta, Canada, and throughout the world.
Faculty, sessional instructors, and graduate students in the Department have received faculty, University, and national teaching awards for both their undergraduate and graduate teaching. Faculty have received awards for their outstanding contributions to scholarship and service at both the national and international levels. I invite you to browse our faculty and research pages to learn about the outstanding teaching and scholarship that occurs within the Department of Secondary Education.
