With reduced building hours on our campuses, please take a few minutes to review these simple steps on how to keep our community safe and secure:

  • Secure or take personal items home.
  • Secure all valuables such as laptops, iPads, etc.
  • Close and lock doors even if you are leaving your office/lab for a few minutes.
  • If your department has access control systems, correctly set the door lock / unlock schedules to meet any modified building hours.
  • Ensure computers controlling these systems are left ON to enable the university’s Control Center to perform remote operations if necessary.
  • Keep your university ID, ONEcard, access cards and keys with you at all times.
  • Close and lock windows.
  • Employ working alone protocols where appropriate.

If you are expecting to close or leave an area for an extended period of time, please make sure that you:

  •  Remove food items from personal space as appropriate.
  • Unplug portable space heaters, humidifiers, air cleaners, coffeemakers etc.
  • Initiate a plan to check server rooms or other critical areas that are not monitored by university's Control Center
  • Turn off all nonessential equipment, such as computers and photocopiers.
  • Make sure to do a final walk through of your area before leaving and ensure locked doors close tightly upon departure.
