Influenza Season

Influenza season is here.

Getting immunized is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from contracting influenza this season. The flu vaccine is now available in most pharmacies and clinics as per Alberta Health Services early release date.

On-Campus Immunization Locations

All U of A students and staff with a valid health care card and ONEcard are eligible to receive an immunization for free at University Health Centre and University Health Centre Pharmacy starting Monday, October 21, 2019. Preregistration is recommended.

UHC immunizations: walk-in basis until the end of influenza season with operating hours starting October 21–November 1, 2019, from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

UHC Pharmacy immunizations: walk-ins welcome until the end of influenza season with operating hours from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. with available appointments between November 4–15, 2019.

You can also find an immunization clinic near you.

Preparing For Your Influenza (flu) Shot

Before receiving your influenza immunization, remember to:

  • Come prepared with your ONEcard and a valid Alberta health care card (or other health card).
  • Wear short sleeves.
  • Plan adequate time for your visit as it is recommended that patients wait onsite for fifteen minutes following their immunization.
  • Complete the pre-registration form on the day that you plan on getting your immunization. Please check back for pre-registration availability.
  • Eat something before being immunized (if you tend to become light-headed during/following injections).
