Podiatry Services – Foot & Ankle Treatment

Dr. Ravji provides specialist medical care related to feet and lower legs and can treat injuries as well as complications from ongoing health issues (e.g diabetes). He works at the U of A Health Centre (UHC) and Serena Orthomedics, however, your podiatric care will be at the UHC.

Appointment Considerations:

Who can access podiatry services?
Dr. Ravji can see current U of A faculty, staff, and students (undergraduate and graduate) and their eligible dependents exclusively at the UHC.

Patients who wish to book an appointment with Dr. Ravji first need to see a physician at the UHC to get an in-clinic referral. Once patients have seen a physician, a staff member will be happy to book the patient an appointment with Dr. Ravji.

To see a different podiatrist, patients will need a referral from a family physician or UHC physician. Wait times for seeing a different podiatrist will depend on your medical issue as well as the availability of the specific podiatrist. Important note: We cannot provide referrals to multiple podiatrists.
When is Dr. Ravji available for appointments?
Dr. Ravji works 2-3 days a month, typically Tuesdays, at the UHC.
Are there costs associated with podiatric treatment?

Most consultations and services are covered in full under Alberta Health, though you may want to confirm your coverage prior to receiving treatment.

Out-of-Province Patients: Some provinces may not cover the services and/or equipment associated with your appointment, you will need to pay out-of-pocket for service provided by Dr. Ravji. Please note that you will be provided with all related documents so that you can submit a claim for reimbursement from your home province’s health care.

Types of Appointments

Orthopedic Equipment

The UHC and Dr. Ravji offer a range of orthopedic gear including custom orthotics, custom braces, compression stockings, and crutches. This equipment can be helpful in treating conditions such as; plantar fasciitis, deep vein thrombosis, and flat feet. There may be a cost associated with this equipment, so we recommend checking with your health insurance plan.

Nail Care

Toenails, unlike fingernails, are often neglected. Injured toenails can lead to serious discomfort and eventual foot conditions that may require treatment. The most common toenail problems include: ingrown, fungal, and thickened nails, and it is best to seek treatment from a podiatrist quickly rather than waiting for the nail to worsen.

Toenails are already more susceptible to injury, however, patients with diabetes and/or mobility concerns who might be losing feeling in their feet should pay special attention. A blister, small cut, or injured toenail that is left untreated may lead to infection or serious injury.
