Undergraduate Researcher Stipend

Interested in completing an independent research project?

Offered though the Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI), this award will provide continuing undergraduate students with an opportunity to receive $5,000 to cover 15 weeks of research-based activity this summer.

Criteria:

  • Must be a continuing student (full-time or part-time) at the University of Alberta
  • Must present satisfactory academic standing (see the Calendar §23.6)
  • Research project must be for a minimum of 4 months, up to 12 month full-time
  • Must be legally entitled to work on campus
  • Must have a confirmed supervisor
  • Stipend may not be held for a project that university credit is being granted for
Application Deadline:
  • First Monday in March (for projects starting in Spring) OR
  • Last Monday in October (for projects starting in Winter)

Note: Students may apply for both the Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Researcher Award and the Undergraduate Researcher Stipend, but can only receive one of the awards.

Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Student Researcher Award

Interested in completing a summer research project?
Offered though the Faculty of Arts and the Office of the Vice President (Research), this award will provide continuing undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts with an opportunity to receive $5,000 to cover 15 weeks of research-based activity.

Criteria:

  • Must be a continuing student in the Faculty of Arts
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 over all courses taken while registered in the Faculty of Arts
  • Research project must normally be 15 weeks (May - August)
  • Must be legally entitled to work on campus
  • Must present research poster at the Roger S. Smith Research Symposium in following October

Application Deadline:

  • March 15th (Note: if this date falls on a holiday or weekend, applications will be accepted the following business day)
