About Us

Drawing on the expertise and infrastructure of the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation, and Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics, we strive to achieve the following:

Vision:

A continuously improving system that helps athletes reach their potential in sport.

Mission:

Provide systematic opportunities for athletes to Explore, Engage, and Excel in our sports.

Cornerstones:

1. Athlete Centred
Athletes are at the heart of any sporting experience and their best interests will always be central to the programming that occurs within the Green & Gold Sport System. Regardless of their age and stage, or the nature of their involvement, we are committed to providing our athletes with high quality developmental experiences that will help them to Explore, Engage, and potentially Excel in their chosen sport(s).

2. Coach Driven
In order to help our athletes make steady progress through our system, we make it a priority to attract and develop high quality coaches and to create the best possible working environment for them. We are also committed to ensuring that all our coaches have the necessary competencies to support their athletes, and that their efforts align with the values and objectives of the Green & Gold Sport System.

3. Evidence Based
Given that the Green & Gold Sport System is part of the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta, we are committed to ensuring that everything we do is informed by the latest and best research. We are also committed to testing and evaluating our own programs and practices on an ongoing basis, with the goal of making them as efficient and effective as possible.

4. Faculty Integrated
The Green & Gold Sport System operates seamlessly within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta and is fully integrated with its academic activities. This means that our Head Coaches are put in a position to enhance both our Athlete and Coach Pathways, and that our Professors are given the opportunity to contribute through their teaching and research.
