Chelsea Ross

Chelsea Ross graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2013. That same year, as a member of the Pandas Rugby team, she helped them win their 6th CIS National title. Since then, Chelsea has earned 17 caps for Rugby Canada's National Senior Women's team and was a member of the 2017 World Cup Squad. Chelsea earned the prestigious Bakewell Trophy in 2013-14 for the University of Alberta's top female athlete. She has gained experience and pursued her passion for coaching at various levels including high school, club, Edmonton Gold, Jr Pandas & Academy, Senior women's Wolfpack, and Pandas. Chelsea's coaching philosophy is focused around creating fun and challenging experiences for her athletes to learn and improve. She encourages a growth mindset for herself and her athletes. Chelsea currently is the Assistant Coach for Pandas 7's and 15's teams, and Lead Coach for the Girls Rugby training group in the Green & Gold Athlete Academy. Chelsea hates eggs and her husband has represented Canada in the sport of Rugby League!

Gord Farnell

Gord Farnell has been involved in coaching at the University of Alberta since 2015, when he completed his undergraduate practicum working as a Strength and Conditioning Support Coach with the Pandas Varsity Rugby team. Since then, Gord has continued to serve various Sport Conditioning coaching roles with Pre-Varsity programs within the Green & Gold Sport System. During the Fall of 2018 and Spring/Summer of 2019, Gord briefly stepped away from the Green & Gold Sport System to complete strength and conditioning internships at Boston University, with the Edmonton Oilers, and at the University of Denver, respectively, as part of his Masters of Coaching degree. More recently, Gord returned to the Green & Gold Sport System in the Fall of 2019 to work as the Lead Coach: Sport Conditioning for all Pre-Varsity programs, a position he currently holds. Gord loves everything about both coaching and strength and conditioning, describing his coaching philosophy as "attempting to cultivate autonomy & critical thinking skills within athletes by communicating the overarching purposes behind training, and facilitating engagement by investing in meaningful, bidirectional relationships." In his free time, Gord enjoys playing and watching hockey, training, and spending time with friends and family.

Klaudia Sapieja

Originally from Poland, Klaudia completed her M.A. in Sport Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2009. Klaudia currently leads a high-quality integrated mental training program for the Green & Gold Sport System at the University of Alberta. She provides performance psychology services to student athletes, varsity staff, and pre-varsity athletes using a variety of modalities which include individual consulting, team workshops, train the trainer sessions, team mental profiling, and embedded mental training sessions. Her passion lies in helping athletes excel in both life and sport through a holistic approach. Her interests are broad and include culture building, confidence building, mindfulness training, embedding mental training into practice, and mental health support. Klaudia enjoys spending time in nature, competing in dog agility, surfing, and playing competitive roller derby.

Leah Copeland

Leah Copeland graduated from the University of Alberta in 2011 with a degree in Secondary Education majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Social Studies. During her time at the University Leah was a part of the Pandas Hockey team, where she was apart of 3 Canada West Championships, 2 National Championships and served as team Captain in her final year. Post-graduation Leah jumped right into her career as a teacher and coach. Over the last 9 years, Leah has coached Bantam AAA, Midget AAA and at the varsity level, serving in many different capacities. In addition to the club coaching Leah as been apart of a number of Hockey Alberta Team ranging from Alberta Challenge Cup to Canada Winter Games. Leah's coaching philosophy is athlete-driven. Athlete success is what drives her to work hard for them on a daily basis.

Matthew Yaworski

Matt is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Sport Conditioning Coach. Matt recently completed a Masters of Coaching in Sport Performance at the University of Alberta, having previously attended the U of A to complete a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, and an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal. Matt has worked as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Strength Coach for 10 years, and prior to returning to the U of A, he worked at a college as the AT and Strength Coach for the men's hockey program, as well as supporting other varsity sports. Matt has extensive experience working with amateur and professional hockey players, and also has many years of experience in the sport of rugby, both as an athlete and therapist.
