Junior Golden Bears Spring Hockey

Our Vision and Principles
Junior Golden Bears Spring Hockey is a one-of-kind program for youth hockey players between the ages of 6 and 14. Our Junior Program builds on the long-term success of our Varsity team, which has won 15 National Championships and 52 Canada West Championships since our inception in 1909. To help instill this Tradition of Excellence, a high level of performance is expected of our athletes, although our true measure of excellence is measured by each athletes’ long-term development rather than their win/loss record. This program is designed to enhance each individuals’ hockey skills through advanced coaching and age appropriate resources provided by the University of Alberta Green & Gold Sports System and Golden Bears Hockey.

The Program
Our program provides opportunities at the Novice (ages 7-8), Atom (ages 9-10), Peewee (ages 11-12), and Bantam (age 13-14) levels. Divisions will be structured into specific birth years, with each respective year having the potential to roster two separate teams; a Gold level team, and a Green level team. In all cases, our athletes are guided and instructed by well-trained coaches who meet all the requirements of the Green & Gold Sport System’s Coach Pathway. These coaches provide high quality technical and tactical instruction, and oversee competitive experiences that align with the vision of Golden Bears Hockey. In addition, Golden Bears Hockey Staff and Players will have direct involvement with each Junior Golden Bears Team on a consistent basis.

All Junior Golden Bears hockey players will benefit from the Green & Gold Sport System’s innovative AIM Program, which is designed to help each athlete build a strong athletic foundation to facilitate and support their continued hockey development. This is all part of a comprehensive curriculum that has been developed in close consultation with the Head Coach of Golden Bears Hockey, Serge Lajoie.
