Junior Curling

Juvenile Curling (Ages 15-17)

Juvenile Curling is provides a unique opportunity for selected curlers to begin to Excel in the sport, and to refine their skills. This full-season program includes a comprehensive training and competition package, and is designed to help the most promising U18 curlers take their games to the next level.

Juvenile curlers must successfully advance through a try-out process to make one of our male or female Juvenile teams. These teams then play a full competitive schedule that includes a number of Alberta Junior Curling Tour events, Junior and Juvenile playdowns, and a weekly adult league at the Saville Centre.

Curlers also take part in an extensive training regimen that features both on-ice and off-ice sessions. The on-ice sessions include a weekly program practice, along with additional team and/or individual practices as required. The off-ice sessions include sport conditioning in our High Performance Training and Research Centre, along with both mental training and strategy workshops.

Each Juvenile team is assigned an experienced Team Coach, who will be in attendance at all practices and games. Teams also have regular access to our program coaches, who are responsible for delivering our weekly program practices. All our coaches are certified with a minimum Green & Gold Coach Level of Performance 1, and are therefore well equipped to help curlers advance their skills.

The curriculum for Juvenile Curling has been developed in close consultation with the Head Coach of Golden Bears and Pandas Curling, and is consistent with the guidelines of Curling Canada’s official Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework.
