U9 & U12

U9 Curling is an ideal way for kids to Explore their interest in the sport, and to learn its basic skills in the process. These curlers use specially designed half-weight rocks, which are much easier for them to control. This program offers an age-appropriate blend of fun drills and modified games, and is designed to build the basic skills associated with being a thrower, a sweeper, and a skip. Our U9 curlers spend approximately 75 minutes on the ice each Sunday under the guidance of our well-trained coaches. The remaining 15 minutes are spent in our innovative AIM Program, which is specifically designed to help kids build a strong general athletic foundation to support their curling development.

No previous curling experience is required. Curlers are asked to wear a CSA approved helmet, clean athletic shoes, and warm athletic clothing when on the ice. Brooms and sliders are provided to those who need them. All curlers receive one Golden Bears or Pandas Curling hoodie each year. The curriculum for U9 Curling has been developed in close consultation with the Head Coach of Golden Bears and Pandas Curling, and is consistent with the guidelines of Curling Canada’s official Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework. Curlers must be under the age of 9. Curlers younger than 7 will be considered based on experience.
