2020 Summer Sport Camp Updates

July 15, 2020

Dear Green & Gold Sport Camp Families,

It has been quite the journey for everyone over the spring.  We have been working with many different groups across the University to develop a return to campus plan using the Government of Alberta's health guidelines.

This morning we were approved to host Track & Field / Run Jump Throw camps outdoors at Foote Field.  We continue to work through the return to campus process with the intention to add more sports to our offerings for August.

Track and Field camps are scheduled to start next week on Monday, July 20th.  Below you will find the following information:

AHS Guided Camp Modifications

In order to facilitate a safe and healthy camp environment for participants and staff, we have had to modify how are camps are conducted.  These are some of the highlighted modifications we have made for this year.

  • Half-day camps with staggered start and finish times to limit the number of participants and parents in the sign-in/ out areas.
  • Smaller camp sizes - Camps are limited to 16 participants
  • Outdoor only spaces.  Track & Field / Run Jump Throw camps will only have scheduled activities outdoors at Foote Field
  • Eliminated Snack/ Lunch Breaks.  By going to half-day camps we are able to limit the number of breaks needed that historically have had participants grouped close together.
  • Daily AHS health screening at check-in.  This is a requirement for participants to complete before being accepted in camp for the day.

Registration Information

Registration is open Thursday, July 16 at 8:00 am.

The registration process will be the same as it was in the spring.  The schedule below will have links that take you to the corresponding camp on our registration website to make it easier to find the camp you would like to register in.

If you have any questions during the process please contact us at sports@ualberta.ca.  Our customer service team is working remotely still and will not have any phone access.  We will be monitoring the sports@ualberta.ca account throughout the days

Dear Green & Gold Sport Camp Families,

In light of recent information released by the Government of Alberta regarding guidelines for day camp programs that limit group sizes and physical contact, it is clear that we will not be able to operate Green & Gold Sport Camps as planned. In the interest of safety for our participants and coaches, we are cancelling our full day, week long summer camps and we will be providing full refunds. Given the volume of refunds that we will be issuing, we are estimating that it will take 3-4 weeks to complete the process for all our customers. We appreciate your patience as our Customer Service Staff are currently working remotely.  Should you be in a situation where you are in need of an immediate refund, please email sports@ualberta.ca and we will do everything we can to assist.

While we are disappointed to have to cancel our camps, we are working on modifying our programming so that we can help kids explore, engage and excel in sport this summer. With that in mind, we ask that you complete a brief survey to inform us of your interests and preferences related to the type of programs that you would be interested in for your child:

We will continue to provide regular updates over the coming weeks and are happy to answer any questions you might have via email at sports@ualberta.ca. You can also check our website (uab.ca/sportystem) for more information.

Thank you for your continued support.

Refund FAQ's

Why is it going to take so long to get my refund?

  • Two reasons, the registration system has preventative measures to protect from accidental mass refunds and our customer service staffing is reduced at the moment as well.

I have multiple registrations, why did I only get 1 refund?

  • In order to complete the mass refund process for all camp registrations efficiently and to minimize errors, refunds are processed camp by camp.  If you have multiple registrations on your account, you will receive multiple refunds through the whole refund process.  By completing refunds camp by camp vs customer by customer, we are able to record and confirm that refunds are occurring correctly.

How do you determine what camps will be refunded first?

  • The refund process will proceed by sport camp, more specifically by camp ID number.  The registration system assigns all camps an ID or Barcode number when the camp is created.  Camps were created in sport groups (i.e. All volleyball camps created together so their id numbers would be grouped together).  We will be working on processing refunds based on camp ID numbers.  This allows us to track and check more efficiently how the process is being completed.

Dear Green & Gold Summer Sport Camp Families and Friends,

As it has been for all of you, this time has been a period of uncertainty for Green & Gold Sport Camps. We wanted to reach out and provide an update in light of the recent announcements made by the Government of Alberta regarding health restrictions that will be in place throughout the summer months.

We will be spending the upcoming days examining the impacts of the Government’s announcement and how it will affect our summer camps. We want to ensure we have all the necessary information available before making a decision on whether our camps will be able to proceed as planned or in a modified format. The fact that you entrust Green & Gold Sport Camps with your children is not lost on us and their safety and wellbeing will always be our top priority.

Our colleagues on the University of Alberta Campus in the Faculty of Science Camps and the Faculty of Engineering DiscoverE Camps have made the difficult decision to cancel their programs for the summer. Each University of Alberta youth camp program has different preparation and training requirements for their staff to deliver the best possible camp experience.  These requirements affect the timing of decisions for program delivery. While Science and DiscoverE camps are in a position that necessitates an immediate decision, our program is able to delay that decision until further information is available. The recommendations of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the University of Alberta will guide the process. We will be preparing contingency plans to modify our schedule and/or deliver an online camp experience if necessary.

We understand that many families are facing financial uncertainty as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our refund policy remains in place and full refunds will be granted with no fees or penalties. Requests can be made by emailing sports@ualberta.ca. We ask for your patience should you request a refund as many of our staff are working remotely and administrative processes are being delayed.

We will continue to provide regular updates over the coming days and weeks and are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you for your continued support.
