SJC sessional instructor Mark Guevarra accepted into doctoral program at Graduate Theological Union in California.

29 March 2019

We are very pleased to announce that Mark Guevarra, a sessional instructor at SJC, has been accepted into the doctoral program at Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Mark, who has taught courses like "The Bible: An Introduction" and "The Theological Education of the Catholic Teacher," has consistently earned high praise from students for his teaching.
Graduate Theological Union is a consortium of eight theological colleges -- Protestant and Catholic (including Dominican and Jesuit) -- that educates scholars for vocations devoted to study and service and equips leaders for a world of diverse religions and cultures.
Mark will be studying in GTU's Department of Theology and Ethics. His PhD will involve four semesters of coursework, evidence of competency in two scholarly research languages, four comprehensive exams, a three-hour oral examination by the doctoral committee, and a dissertation to be completed by the seventh year of study. Sounds like he will be busy!
Mark's PhD will build on his Masters degree from the University of St. Michael's College (Toronto). Thankfully, he has already received a significant scholarship from GTU to begin the PhD. Please join us in congratulating Mark and wishing him every success as he moves to California in August and embarks on this significant academic endeavour.
