27 March 2019

Fr. Don McLeod, CSB, ThD, has regretfully submitted his resignation from SJC as Dean of Advancement and Associate Professor for personal reasons.

Fr. Don, who was ordained a Basilian priest in 1978, first came to St. Joseph's College in 1979, after completing his Honours BA in Philosophy and English (1966), MA in Philosophy (1967), and MDiv in Theology (1977), all at St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. After spending a year at SJC, during which he assisted with the College chaplaincy and lectured in the areas of Theology and Education, Fr. Don left in 1980 to pursue doctoral studies at St. Michael's College and the Toronto School of Theology, resulting in his being awarded a ThD in Theology and Education (1992).

In 2006 Fr. Don re-joined SJC as an Associate Professor and taught courses related to his areas of expertise, such as The Bible: An Introduction; The Theological Education of the Catholic Teacher; The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke; The Catechism of the Catholic Church; and Teaching Religion: Secondary.

In addition to his academic contributions to the College, Fr. Don also played an important role in the administration of SJC. He contributed significantly to the revision of the College's Policies and Procedures and Statutes, along with the creation of SJC's Identity and Mission document (2015) and Strategic Plan (2018). Once appointed Dean of Advancement (2018), Fr. Don spearheaded initiatives related to events, fundraising, marketing, and communications at SJC.

Fr. Don is in the process of moving to Toronto, where he will continue his work as a Trustee of the Canadian Religious Self-Insured Retention Plan, the Director of Healthy Aging and Eldercare for the Basilian Fathers, the Chair of the Board of Governors of Assumption University (Windsor, ON), the Chair of the Collegium of the University of St. Michael's College (Toronto) and a member of the Basilian Network for Education and the New Evangelization. He also enjoys getting out when he can to pilot small aircraft; he regularly donated a "Flying High with Fr. Don" to the silent auction at the SJC Ignite Gala.

Fr. Don's significant and valued presence at SJC will be missed. We wish him continued success and heartfelt best wishes for his future endeavours.
