Summer 2020 Courses

Dear Students,

If, in the midst of so much uncertainty, your plans for Summer are up in the air, we’d like to take a moment to let you know about some of the remote learning opportunities available to you through St. Joseph’s College. Our courses are all 3-credit Arts options offered during Summer Term.

For those with a leaning towards the literary, we’re offering:

  • CHRTC 203 - Harry Potter & Christian Spirituality
  • CHRTC 242 - The Writings of C.S. Lewis

Dive deeper into some of your favourite books by exploring their religious, theological, and spiritual themes.

Students in the Faculty of Education can get ahead by taking:
  • CHRTC 250 - The Theological Education of the Catholic Teacher
  • CHRTC 380 - Teaching Religion: Elementary
  • CHRTC 381 - Teaching Religion: Secondary

Consider also enrolling in our Certificate in Catholic Education, recognized as a hiring asset by the Edmonton Catholic School District.

For anyone wanting to get a handle of some of the basics of Christianity, may we suggest:

  • CHRTC 100 - The Bible: An Introduction
  • CHRTC 264 - Dimensions of the Christian Faith
  • CHRTC 266 - Jesus in the New Testament
  • CHRTC 309 - Conscience & Ethics
  • CHRTC 350 - Science and Religion: Christian Perspectives
  • PHIL 339 - Contemporary World Views and Christianity

These courses introduce topics central to Christianity as believers live it and struggle with it today.

Finally, in the realm of popular culture, we offer:

  • CHRTC 220 - Sport and Religion

These are both great options for those curious about the relationships between religion and aspects of the contemporary world.

You can find all of our courses on Bear Tracks, and can also contact Sara McKeon, SJC’s Academic Program Coordinator (sjcdean@ualberta.ca), for more information.
