Student Placements

As an academic centre, The Steadward Centre provides a diverse range of learning opportunities and volunteer experiences across all our program areas, supporting students in the areas of kinesiology, physical education, recreation, science, nursing, rehabilitation medicine and coaching. Students develop skills, put learning to practice and earn certifications to support their future careers in the area of sport, recreation and fitness.

Each year, we support students in a wide variety of learning experiences across the Centre:

  • Volunteer Placements

    • Students can request to volunteer within any of our 5 program areas.

    • Volunteers will gain valuable experience in Adapted Physical Activity and Parasport.

    • A general volunteer training session (and any necessary specific training sessions) will be provided.

  • Professional Practicum Placements

    • Undergraduate students studying in related fields such as kinesiology and physical education and recreation can apply to complete professional practicum placements with TSC as part of their Bachelor’s degree requirements.

    • Students will complete 14 weeks of applied work experience in Adapted Physical Activity.

  • Community Service Learning (CSL) Credits

    • CSL placements integrate community-based experiences into the course curriculum and encourage students to apply course material in new situations.

    • As a designated CSL partner, The Steadward Centre supports students through KIN 471, KIN 472, and PSYC 327 classes.

  • Graduate Student Internship Program

    • The Steadward Centre has partnered with the Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) at the University of Alberta to offer work experience for graduate students.

    • The GSIP provides opportunities for University of Alberta graduate students to gain valuable work experience through paid, meaningful internships in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
