Development Panel and Committees

The development of the University of Alberta's signature research and teaching areas is guided by three committees:

  • The Signature Areas Development Panel
  • Deans' Council
  • The Signature Areas Steering Committee

The Signature Areas Development Panel (as of September 2019)

Co-chaired by the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and the Vice-President (Research), the Signature Areas Development Panel considers ideas from across the academy, evaluating them against the criteria in For the Public Good - a process of analysis, synthesis and connection of potential areas. They recommend areas that are ready to launch immediately (signature areas) and identify those areas in need of further development (emerging areas).

The panel is also tasked with recommending a process for the ongoing identification of additional signature and emerging areas.
