Nicholas Henger

Foundation Director/Alberta Elks Foundation Representative

Nicholas joined the Elks in 1976, and has been a member of the Red Deer Elks Lodge #85 for more than 40 years. During this time he has held all positions on the Lodge Executive, including Exalted Ruler (President) in 1987. He was elected to the Executive of the Alberta Elks Association in 1989 and served as President of the Association in 1997-1998.

In 1998 he was appointed Provincial Secretary-Treasurer and served 15 terms as Provincial Secretary-Treasurer of the Association as well as 8 Terms as Secretary-Treasurer of the Alberta Elks Foundation. For the past 5 years he has served on the Provincial Judiciary Committee, 3 terms as Chairman. During his years as a member of the Elks, Nicholas served 5 years as a member of a committee at the national level - Elks of Canada Grand Lodge.

In 1999, he presented a proposal to our Provincial Conference to raise funds for the Provincial Foundation, namely TABS for TOTS program. This is a program where we collect the pull tabs from beverage containers, sell them to a scrap dealer, turning it into cash, then use the cash to purchase equipment for hospitals and Health Care Units, that they cannot get through the Provincial Government. This program has been expanded over the years to now include any scrap metal that can be recycled. To date, over the last 18 years, the Elks have donated almost $170,000.00 worth of equipment in Alberta, North Eastern and South Eastern BC, and the Yukon.

Nicholas has been happily married to his wife Jean for more than 50 years.

Nicholas says "I look forward to serving as the Elks Foundation representative at ISTAR."
