Roland was born in New Westminster, BC, and later went to St.John's College in Edmonton. He lived for over 50 years in Yellowknife, NWT where he worked for the Giant Gold mine before starting his career with the NWT Government were he worked for the next 30 years in various Departments including serving as a purchasing officer for many years. After his retirement he moved to Spruce Grove where he presently lives with his wife of 51 years, Pauline. They had 3 children, Michael and Lorraine both still live in Yellowknife, however his daughter Rita passed away in 1997. They also have 3 grandchildren.
Roland joined the Elks in 1963 and served on all the positions in his local Lodge, as well as on all the Territorial committees. He was the Exalted Ruler of his home lodge on 3 separate occasions then was elected as the Territorial President and has served on all of the Grand Lodge committees. In 1996 he was elected to the Grand Lodge and was elected to the position of Grand Exalted Ruler in 2002 where he visited many Lodges across Canada. He was elected to serve on the Alberta Elks Foundation in 2015.
Roland is fluently bi-lingual in English and French.
