International Students Visit the Surgical Simulation Research Laboratory

13 August 2018

The Surgical Simulation Research Laboratory (SSRL) recently hosted 25 students from six medical schools in China and Thailand. They attended a series of lectures and hands-on demonstrations given by the SSRL staff and students. The international students are part of the FoMD's Global Medical Student Program, which gave the SSRL team an opportunity to participate in an international project and receive feedback from overseas medical students about the laboratory's simulation research and innovation.

Dr. Paola Sánchez a masters student, says "I had the opportunity to share my knowledge about my research with a group of future physicians. This event was an excellent opportunity for practicing my communication, leadership, and pedagogical skills'. Dr. Sanchez gave a presentation about augmented reality and virtual reality in surgery. She also showed them how a laparoscopic tower works and the differences between open and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Sanchez says, "I am glad we could show the medical students the role of simulation in surgery."
