13 October 2021

Congratulations to General Surgery Resident Dr. Jerry Dang for publishing 65 research papers during his residency career: His main focus is in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery working with Dr. Dang’s supervisor, Dr.Daniel Birch.

Dr. Dang recently defended his PhD Thesis "The Intestinal Physiology of Bariatric Surgery". In 2022, he starts a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

The University of Alberta’s Department of Surgery not only trains world-class surgeons, but nurtures surgeon-scientists, resulting in it leading globally in surgical research. This success is due to collaboration. From bionic arms and NASA-award winning biomedical space research to Type-1 diabetes therapy, the research depends on a broad diversity of disciplines of our researchers - nurses, psychology students, engineers, computer scientists, cell biologists... many from other departments.
