CRC in Transplant Surgery and Regenerative Medicine renewed

Canada Research Chair in Transplant Surgery and Regenerative Medicine for Dr. James Shapiro has been renewed for another seven years.

The prestigious national Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transplant Surgery and Regenerative Medicine for Dr. James Shapiro has been renewed for another seven years. The CRC is a federal government program to recruit and retain the world's best researchers. Tier 1 CRCs, tenable for seven years and renewable, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. Dr. Shapiro heads islet transplant research for the treatment of type 1 diabetes and was a key player in developing the Edmonton Protocol therapy, publishing the pioneering paper 20 years ago. Department of Surgery Chair, Dr. David Williams says, "Congratulations to Dr. Shapiro on the renewal of his Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transplant Surgery and Regenerative Medicine. The renewal of the Tier 1 CRC will ensure that Dr. Shapiro's groundbreaking research will be supported for many years to come."
