Dr. Jenna-Lynn Senger recently won the Canadian Society for Plastic Surgery (CSPS) Best Basic Science award - for a neuroma study. She won it for the fourth year in a row, setting a record by winning this award more times than any other resident in the history of the society. Dr. Jaret Olson Divisional Director of Plastic Surgery says, “Jenna has continued her research excellence by winning an unprecedented fourth in a row top basic science research award at the CSPS.”

Dr. Senger also won the TSG Microsurgery scholarship from the Group for the Advancement of Microsurgery, Canada. This award is given to a final-year resident going to do a microsurgery fellowship who plans to use those skills to enhance microsurgical care for patients in Canada. The judges were impressed by Dr. Senger's research and how she wants to incorporate nerve regeneration and lymphedema surgery into a comprehensive treatment plan for patients with breast cancer, and how she aims to use her work on neuroplasticity to improve outcomes for patients with facial palsy.

Her supervisor Dr. Christine Webber says, “I believe Jenna has the potential to be one of Canada’s top clinician scientists.” Co-supervisor Dr. Ming Chan echoed her thoughts, saying "Jenna's awards and achievements are a reflection of her perseverance and hard work. She has great promise as a future surgeon scientist." The University of Alberta’s Division of Plastic Surgery represented nine out of the 32 podium presentations.
