Our Approach

Working Groups

The University of Alberta has working groups that develop solutions and pilot innovative ideas to advance sustainability across our institution.

Sustainable Purchasing Working Group

Supply Management Services chairs the Sustainable Purchasing Group. This group provides leadership to the university in purchasing socially and environmentally responsible goods and services. Group members explore opportunities for sustainable purchasing, make recommendations to the university, share information and find opportunities to collaborate on pilot projects.

Waste Diversion Working Group

Buildings and Grounds Services and Energy Management and Sustainable Operations co-chair the Waste Diversion Working Group. This group takes a zero waste approach the university’s solid waste—it finds ways to reduce waste or to divert it from landfills, and finds opportunities to connect with faculties and researchers within the university.
