Social Sustainability

Social sustainability refers to how the University of Alberta supports the health and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors. Our social sustainability initiatives emphasize social good on campus, encouraging constructive relationships, safety and social inclusion, and reducing inequity, conflict and cultural tensions.

The university fosters social sustainability in many ways:

Health and Wellness

We encourage students, faculty and staff to maintain a healthy body and mind. We offer many opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity, and to improve mental health.

Building Community

We provide programs that encourage inclusion, and build connections within the campus community. The University of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, traditional lands of First Nations and Métis people.

Career and Life Development

We foster a community of learning, encouraging students, faculty and staff to work towards a sustainable campus, and to reach their personal best.
