This time around, the U of A community is celebrating the announcement of the 2016 Canadian Research Chairs, hackathon results, words for globetrotting, and more!

- Alexandra Shuttleworth, Undergraduate Student, Faculty of ALES -winner of the 2016 Macgregor Smith Speaking Competition
- ALES Range Team - the 2016 Range Team won eight categories after completing two demanding exams at the Society for Range Management's annual conference in Corpus Christi, Texas. Individual awards included first place for Sarah Thacker, and fourth place for Ross Adams, in the Undergraduate Range Management Exam.
- Rebecca Fredrickson, instructor in English & Film Studies and Tomas Andel, Undergraduate Student, Faculty of Arts - winners of the CĂ©cile E. Mactaggart Travel Awards for Narrative Writing.
- Indragie Karunaratne, student, Faculty of Engineering - First place at the third annual ECE Week hackathon.
- Nathan Doraty, Nathan Liebrecht, James Hryniw and Nicholas Westbury, students, Faculty of Engineering - third place at the third annual ECE Week hackathon.
- Tanya Berry, Associate Professor, Faculty of Physical Education & Recreation - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Physical Activity Promotion.
- Jillian Buriak, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Nanomaterials for Energy.
- Mark R. Freeman, Department of Professor, Faculty of Science - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Condensed Matter Physics.
- Duane G. Froese, Associate Professor, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Northern Environmental Change.
- Dennis Hall, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - Awarded the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Boron Chemistry for Catalysis and Drug Discovery.
- Fangliang He, Professor, Department of Renewable Resources, Faculty of ALES - Awarded the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Biodiversity and Landscape Modelling.
- Natalia Ivanova, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
- Mark Lewis, Professor, Department of Math & Statistical Sciences, Faculty of Science - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Condensed Matter Physics.
- Witold Pedrycz, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering - Renewed as the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Computational Intelligence.
- Peichun Amy Tsai, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering - Awarded the 2016 Canada Research Chair in Fluids and Interfaces.
- Mitchell McInnes, Professor, Faculty of Law - recognized by the CBA Alberta and the Law Society of Alberta with the Distinguished Service Award for Legal Scholarship.
- Jack Jhamandas, Distinguished University Professor in the Division of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - appointed the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC)'s vice-president, research.
- Dental Student Association - raised $60,000 for the non-profit charity Kindness in Action.
- John Hogg, Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation - awarded the Geoff Gowan Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Mariusz Klobukowski, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - celebrated as the Faculty of Science's February 2016 Instructor of the Month.
- Glen Loppnow, Professor, Associate Dean (Learning & Innovation), Vargo Teaching Chair, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - recipient of the 2016 CIC Award for Chemical Education by the Canadian Institute of Chemistry
- Robert Campbell, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - winner of the Teva Canada Limited Biological and Medicinal Chemistry (BMC) Lectureship Award
