Where is your favorite place on campus?

There are a couple: one of them is the Alumni House, and another one is the view from the fifth floor of Peter Lougheed Hall.

My other favourite spot is the Rick Hanson Gym.

Tablet or paper?

I’m trying to move to tablet… but I’m kind of old-school. When it comes to books, I still love the feel and the smell.

Name one thing you’ve brought to work from home.

Gym clothes and my knitting — those are my breaks from the day.

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

A good cup of tea. I think it’s my British heritage — you know the saying: “All the world’s problems can be solved with a good cup of tea.”

If you won airfare to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

There are a few things on the bucket list: one of them is to walk or bike the Camino de Santiago, the trail between France and Spain. But there’s also a half marathon in Iceland called the Midnight Sun Run — I’d love to do that as well.

Or I would eat/drink/shop my way through Italy.

You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?

I’d like to have Mother Theresa, the Queen, and Oprah. But Oprah would have to ask the questions — if I’m in the presence of those people, I’m not going to be able to ask any questions. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the conversation.

If you could switch jobs with someone else on campus for a week, what would you do?

I love what I do, but if I had to switch I’d be on the grounds crew during the planting season, or at the Botanical Garden.

What does “uplifting the whole people” mean to you?

I think it’s about building a positive culture for students, staff, alumni… when people feel positive they become more open and resourceful.

If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be?

Prejudice. If we didn’t have prejudice in the world, I think a lot of our problems would be solved.

What 3 words best describe your U of A experience?

Engaging. Exciting. Productive.
