I am pleased to announce that Dr. Cen Huang has been appointed as Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (International) for the University of Alberta, effective July 1, 2019.

Before serving as Interim Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (International) in 2018-19, Dr. Huang held the positions of Executive Director (International Partnerships) and Associate Vice-President (International Advancement), and Executive Director of International Relations and Recruitment and Assistant Vice-President (International). She has been responsible for the development and implementation of a number of key strategic initiatives for the international portfolio. Most recently, Dr. Huang has provided leadership in the development, consultation, and approval of the University of Alberta’s new International Strategic Plan.

Dr. Huang is a recognized leader in international education, both in Canada and abroad, and holds a PhD in Comparative Education from the University of Calgary and Master’s degrees in Education Philosophy and University Administration from the University of Glasgow. Dr. Huang has taught many academic courses in Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and China, and has also published four books and more than 30 book chapters and journal articles.

Dr. Huang is committed to working with faculties and units across all campuses to implement the university’s international strategy, and lead UAI as a central service unit supporting the university and faculties in internationalization.

Thank you to all those who have provided thoughtful and valuable input on the future needs of our International portfolio and its leadership. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Huang on her new role.
