Have you met Jeanique, PhD student and graduate research assistant in the Political Science department? Spend the next few minutes getting to know her a little better.

What is your first U of A memory?

Trying to find my dorm room in Hub Mall and not really understanding how things were numbered. A nice stranger helped me find my way and helped me with my bags. I just remember feeling disoriented and overwhelmed. I’ve lived in a lot of dorms, at a lot of schools but that first day is never easy for some reason.

What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?

I’ve never been camping and no one can make me lol.

What’s your favourite distraction?

Taking care of plants and watching murder mysteries. Very often, they’re happening at the same time.

If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?

It would absolutely be a horticulture program. If I could spend a few months just learning about plants, I would be so happy.

What’s a weird pet peeve you have?

People who are super chatty and cheery in the morning. I can’t be that social before 10am. LEAVE ME BE.

You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?

I’m a little obsessed with Cleopatra. I think she’d be really interesting company.

If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?

Usher. Fave singer growing up and he put on some of the best concerts I’ve been to. I’d love to see him do his thing now.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Don’t be so guarded.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

When I first left for boarding school at 11, my sister gave me the pillow she slept with. I’ve kept it with me as I’ve moved around. If my house were on fire, I’d seriously consider going in to get it.

What three words describe your U of A experience?

Growth. Mentorship. Opportunities.
