What we do

The News and Media Relations unit plays a leading role in telling the University of Alberta's story externally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing, the U of A's brand journalism website
  • Pro-active media pitching
  • Managing media requests
  • Media relations training
  • News writing training

The News and Media Relations team assists the U of A community with telling its story to the world. It accomplishes this task by posting stories every day on, the university's brand journalism website.

Published a paper with an interesting finding in a peer-reviewed journal? Wish to write an op-ed, or comment to the media, about a subject in which you are an expert? The News and Media Relations unit is always looking to tell stories on based on research findings. We also publish opinion-editorial pieces (commentaries) written by U of A researchers.

Looking for help dealing with journalists? We host media training sessions to help researchers engage media with confidence.

Looking to write an opinion-editorial? We host workshops on how to pitch an opinion-editorial piece to and other media outlets.

We also host workshops for communicators on how to write news stories in a traditional journalistic style.
