The University of Alberta was named one of Canada's greenest employers for the ninth straight year.

The U of A is just one of seven employers-and the only Canadian post-secondary institution-to make the national list in each of the last nine years.

The list is compiled by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers competition to recognize employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.

One of the reasons the university has been a mainstay on the list is that it supports employees who want to learn more about sustainability and engage their offices. Among other opportunities, a stipend is available to staff to enrol in the Faculty of Extension course Leading Sustainability at Work.

"We love seeing our staff bring their passion for sustainability to work. It's rewarding for them, their co-workers, our students and the community ultimately," said Gitta Kulczycki, U of A vice-president of finance and administration.
