Mental Health Emergency

Our mental health is affected by many things, including life events, stress, and the support systems we have in place. The University of Alberta has many mental health services and resources available to staff and students. 

A person who is experiencing a mental health emergency may behave in ways that put themselves or others at risk.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency:

If there is an imminent threat to life or safety

  • Call 911; follow instructions.
  • Remain calm; comfort the individual if it is safe to do so.
  • Remain with the individual until emergency responders arrive.
