UAlberta North Administered Scholarships

 

Deadlines for submission of all applications:

Graduate scholarships: August 14 each year.

Undergraduate scholarships: October 15 each year. 

 

The Kennett Y. Spencer Memorial Scholarship

Endowed through the will of the late Kennett Y Spencer

Value: $2,100

Eligibility: The Scholarship is open to residents of northern Alberta (as defined by the Northern Alberta Development Council), Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The award is granted to a student at the University of Alberta for high academic attainment and original research carried out in any discipline pertaining to northern studies.

Your application should include the following:

Original and 2 copies of the completed application form (see below)

A transcript

3 copies of evidence of original research (e.g., course paper, thesis, research paper), and

Reference letters (minimum of 3) must be received no later than August 14

Ashley and Janet Cameron Graduate Scholarship in Northern Studies and Research

Endowed by the estate of Ashley and Janet Cameron

Value: $3,000

Eligibility: The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student in a graduate degree program at the University of Alberta whose focus of enquiry is in the field of northern and circumpolar studies. The scholarship is renewable. The decision to renew will be based on a report from the recipient’s supervisor on their progress in their studies/research. The holder of the scholarship may not hold the award for more than two consecutive years. The recipient will be selected on the basis of superior academic achievement (equivalent to a grade point average of 3.5 or greater on the University of Alberta grading scale).

Your application should include the following:

Original and 2 copies of the completed application form, which asks for a description of the research to be undertaken (maximum of 2 pages)

A transcript

Reference letters (minimum of 3) must be received no later than August 14

Ashley and Janet Cameron Graduate Scholarship Application Form


Endowment Fund for Northern Studies and Research

Endowed by the International Winter Cities Committee (Edmonton Branch).

 Value: $1,200

Eligibility: This award is open to undergraduate students who have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing northern studies and/or research. The scholarship will provide financial support toward the cost of tuition, travel, or costs associated with research. Awarded annually, the purpose of the award is to assist undergraduate students with satisfactory academic standing attending the UA and entered in a degree program involving northern studies and research or study leading to a northern specialization.

Your application should include the following:

A transcript

Statement of interest in the north, of need and proposed use of funds 

Letter of support from a UA faculty member

Ashley and Janet Cameron Northern Studies Undergraduate Scholarship

Endowed by the estate of Ashley and Janet Cameron

Value: $1,000

Eligibility: The scholarship is awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of study for any undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Selection will be based on academic standing and demonstration of strong interest in northern studies.

Ashley and Janet Cameron Northern Studies Undergraduate Scholarship


 

Ashley and Janet Cameron Travel Fund

Value: $2,500

Eligibility: The Ashley and Janet Cameron Travel Fund is open to graduate and undergraduate students of the University of Alberta. The award supports travel for participation in a Go-North experience, a northern field school, seminar, or to attend circumpolar-oriented conferences and workshops in Canada or abroad. Travel grants will assist students in the dissemination of research results at conferences, or reporting research outcomes to northern communities. The number of grants available varies each year.  Applications are accepted twice annually; deadlines are March 1 and September 1 of the current year.
