CME Internships
Three location options: Nancy, France; Hokkaido, Japan; Germany
Overview
What the Program has to offer:
- Research placements for University of Alberta Engineering undergraduate students - to train in and work on a research project in a university laboratory
- If the professor at the host university is collaborating with an industry partner, the student may be placed with the company and not in the university laboratory
- Each placement is between 4 - 8 months long. Students planning a 4-month work term should consider Hokkaido University.
- Most opportunities will provide the student with a small monthly stipend for compensation (typically between the equivalent of $500-$800 Canadian dollars)
When Can I Go?
Terms Offered: Winter, Fall, Summer - expect to apply for and interview for nomination at least 1 semester before you intend to travel

Internship Information
Language of Instruction: English
Internships are offered at the following locations:
- DLR in Various Cities, Germany (up to 8 months)
- Hokkaido University in Hokkaido, Japan (4-8 months)
- MinesNancy, in Nancy, France (5-8 months) - Internships with MinesNancy are eligible for a 2000Euro scholarship
Depending on a student's strengths and areas of interest, they may be nominated to a location different from their indicated preference.
Deadline to Apply - January 14, 2024 for internships beginning in Summer 2024. Once the deadline closes, selected candidates will be invited to an interview (January 16/17). Once interviews are completed, students will be notified if they will be nominated to the partner university.
*Please note that students should also apply for any funding & awards they are eligible for prior to the award application deadline, even if they do not have a confirmed internship yet. Fees & Costs
Students are eligible to apply for student accommodations in France and Japan. Students going to Germany with DLR will need to find their own accommodations.
