Daniel Semper
I am a doctoral candidate at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria. My background is in sociology and management with a focus on organisation studies. I graduated at the University of Graz and the Warwick Business School in the UK. I held visiting appointments at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, and I still hold visiting appointments at the University of Bergamo, Italy, and the National Research University, Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. My professional affiliations include Scancor at Stanford University, EGOS and AoM. My PhD thesis deals with the differences of authenticity claims, their legitimacy and social embeddedness. Other fields of interest are in the area of institutional work, socio-materiality, intercultural learning and identity movements. Recent papers concern questions of institutional resistance, the rationalisation of authenticity claims, variations of collectivism. Another focus of my research lies on the identity dynamics of the becoming of university students. Apart from my research I have designed a new international study program at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, a Joint Master in Global Business, with a special focus on intercultural competences, which I head as an academic director since 2013.
