The Campus Food Bank and the community it serves needs your support now more than ever.
Please give generously!
This year’s annual Christmas Concert of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies will showcase music for choirs, mezzo soprano, and keyboard trio with strings, in performance of Classical masterpieces, festive carols and favourite arias.
The Wirth Institute Music Liaison, Dr. Mikolaj Warszynski, will perform as part of the Mazurka Trio on piano/harpsichord, Tatiana Warszynski on violin and Amy Nicholson on cello; will perform masterworks by Schubert, Haydn, Bach and Chopin – including the Rondo All’Ongarese (Gypsy Rondo) from Haydn’s piano trio, the Larghetto from Chopin’s 2nd Piano Concerto, and the serene Schubert Notturno for piano trio.
Canadian soprano Whitney Sloan will return once again to perform the beloved Ave Maria by Schubert, the prayer scene from Janacek’s opera Jenuffa, as well as traditional Hungarian and Croatian carols. Whitney will be joined by Zuzana Simurdova on the piano.
The Polonia Choir from Edmonton led by Oksana Ostashevska will perform beautiful Slavic carols A capella, and German carols will be performed by the Austrian Choir Heimatecho, led by Jeannie Park, specially coming up for the event from Calgary.
The traditional ‘Silent Night’ will conclude the concert, performed by all musicians and both choirs on stage!

What you should know about the UAlberta Campus Food Bank:
- Amidst COVID-19, rising tuition, out of control inflation, and the stressors of school, our client list has expanded immensely.
- From September 2021 to August 2022, we made 4139 food hampers to support 6590 members of the university community (students, staff and alumni up to 5 years after graduation) and their families.
- From 2021-22, we served 106 percent - literally double - the number of hampers that we did the previous year!
- Of the 1,118 unique clients we served, 797 or 71% were new clients. New client intake is up 65% from the previous year when only 43% were new.
- The Campus Food Bank serves lots of families, and almost 1/3 of our clients are children under the age of 18.
-
Our hamper program is a supplemental grocery program, but 20% of clients say that they are unable to cover the cost of the rest of their food intake
These are unprecedent times and it's okay to need help. The Campus Food Bank is here to support you!
