The Persons Case Scholarships were established in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Persons Case victory.

In 1929, Alberta's Famous Five - Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Emily Murphy and Irene Parlby - successfully led the landmark case, in which the British Privy Council declared women in Canada qualified as "persons" under the law. This opened the door to many new opportunities for Canadian women. For more information on the Persons Case, visit http://www.child.gov.ab.ca/home/1069.cfm
