Kayleigh Wiebe

MA in Gender and Social Justice Studies (2019)

Capstone Project:  Why the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls' "Calls for Justice" Should be Implemented into the Leap's Green New Deal

Bio: Kayleigh studied the effect that stories can have in relaying Indigenous issues to raise community consciousness and bring people together to facilitate change. Her capping project synthesizes the learnings she had throughout her MA by examining the intersections of environmental issues and the colonial heteropatriarchy. Prior to her MA, she worked for five years at the University of Alberta’s
former Office of Sustainability, where she planned events, supervised staff, and managed a large
volunteer program. Currently, Kayleigh works as a Research Assistant for a national NGO, using
data science tools and techniques to create a more socially just world.
