Jenaye Lewis

BA (2014)

J.D. 2019, Corporate/Commercial Lawyer

Bio: Jenaye Lewis graduated from the University of Alberta in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Distinction, double-majoring in English and Women's and Gender Studies (WGS). Between degrees, Jenaye assisted with the management of multiple small businesses in the central Alberta region. Jenaye was accepted into the University of Alberta's Law Program in 2016 and received her Juris Doctor degree in 2019. As a law student, Jenaye co-authored a chapter entitled "Feminism, morality, and human rights - Assessing the effectiveness of the United Kingdom's FGM Act" in Women's Health and the Limits of the Law: Domestic and International Perspectives, which was published in 2020. Jenaye's WGS background undoubtedly provided her with the foundation and language needed to address this work.

Jenaye completed her articles in Edmonton, Alberta and passed the bar in 2020. She is now an Associate Lawyer with Swainson Miki Peskett LLP practicing as a Corporate/Commercial solicitor, and she currently presides as Secretary of the Board for Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Edmonton. Jenaye's background in women's and gender studies allows her to provide a unique perspective, particularly in the realm of corporate governance, and she is proud to be a business lawyer with a perhaps unconventional academic background.
