  • June 2008
    Congratulations to our gifted, word-working high school students, Mustafa and Hazel Babadagli. The twins placed 1st in the Provincial Competition of Sanofi-Aventis BioTalent Challenge and fourth at the National Competition in Ottawa. Read more about the accomplishments of our students at the following article, which appeared in the Edmonton Journal.

     

  • March 2008
    The Uludag lab secured a Research Tools & Instruments (RTI) grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) to acquire a Isothermal Titration Calorimeter (ITC). The project will be funded for $135,000 with a departmental support of $10,000. The following collaborators are part of this grant application: Philip Choi (CME), John Shaw (CME), Larry Unsworth (CME & NRC), John Nychka (CME), William McCaffrey (CME), and Afsaneh Lavasanifar (Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences). We look forward to making best use of this state-of-the art equipment, and collaborating with our colleagues.

    Welcome to Orawan Suwantong, who joined the Uludag lab for a 6-month internship from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand). Orawan's stay at the University of Alberta is supported by the Thailand Graduate Institute of Science and Technology. Orawan is keeping company to her Thai labmate Art in Edmonton, while improving her English language skills and scientific experience.

    Welcome to Remant Bahadur K.C., who joined the Uludag lab as a postdoctoral fellow from Korea. Remant obtained his Ph.D. from the Chonbuk National University, and developed a highly sought expertise in nanotechnology from the Department of Bionanosystem Engineering. Remant, a native of Nepal, is feeling right at home in Edmonton, given the large choice of indian restaurants in town.

  • February 2007
    Congradulations to our collaborator Dr. Aziz Ghahary of University of British Columbia on securing an Operating Grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Funding was provided for 5 years at ~$157,422 per annum on Development and Application of Non-Rejectable Allogenic Skin Substitute as a Wound Coverage. The Uludag lab will be lending the expertise on drug delivery aspects on this project.

    The Uludag lab recently secured an Operating Grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) on Designing Amphiphilic Polymers for Gene Delivery in Clinically-Relevant Cells. The project will be funded for 4 years with an annual budget of ~$136,634. We look forward to making unique contributions to this exciting field.



  • Janurary 2007
    Welcome to Artphop Neumnark, who joined the Uludag lab for a 6-month internship from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand). Artphop's stay at the University of Alberta is supported by the Thailand Research Fund. Artphop learned a lot about himself when he boarded the plane off in Edmonton after a 24 hour trip from Bangkok and a -50C temperature change!



  • November 2007
    Congradulations to Charlie Hsu and Kevin Siggers for securing graduate studentship support from the CIHR Team Grant on Stem Cells as Promoters of Skeletal Repair, headed by Prof. Derrick Rancourt from the U. of Calgary.



  • October 2007: Acquisition of a new flow cytometer
  • Sept. 2007: Lab welcomes Kevin Sigger, new PhD student
    • The Uludag lab added a new member to the team this month. Kevin Sigger joins us from Vancouver, where he did a MSc in Chemical and Material Engineering at UBC. Sigger will be working on developing scaffold for bone regeneration.

  • March 30-31, 2007: Keynote Speech at the Edmonton Aging Symposium
