Yearly update time.
1. I'm a father!!! Kieran Elliot was born on Oct 28. He's doing wonderfully (so is mom).
2. I'm 5 months away from chief year. Uh oh.
3. I'm maintaining this page (sort of) because facebook is gonna fade away sooner or later.

Merry Christmas!
I'm living a damn fine life on GI right now.
Scoping is a bit like golf. When it's going well, you're navigating corners like you've been around them a hundred times and the right move just occurs when you need it without you thinking about it.
When it's going bad...... Holy crap. It's like rimming out a 2 ft putt, then missing the 4 footer you left yourself with. Then, after finally sinking the white orb of frustration and marking a 7 on the card, you line up at the next tee and put it into orbit only to watch it veer off into the trees on a trajectory that is irreconcilable with Newtonian physics. It can be that bad.
Anywhoo... I'm lying here in bed on Christmas eve looking at mountain bike videos (I suggest scrolling down to Stund Episode #4) and reading Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book . It's probably time to get to sleep, but I just feel too grown up falling asleep early on Christmas eve.
Heather and I will have some wedding photos up soon so stay tuned.

Happy Birthday Heather! (Oct 22)
New York is damn cool. Heather and I had a blast on our holidays - visited in Trenton, hooked up with Kish and Kelly in Ottawa, hung out in Montreal and then caught up with Chad in Manhattan. Just ask me about New York to hear details.
Starting back to work tomorrow. CCU. Should be a good return to the wards but the nerves are twitching a bit about having to know some medicine again. We'll see how it goes.
Finally, the LeSabre and I were in a little fender bender just before I left for holidays. Even though the Buick escaped little damage, we decided to take it behind the barn and ... well, you know. It was for the best....and the Kidney Foundation. So, to fill the sizable void left by "the sabre" I've got a new Mitsubishi Lancer Rally Art. Damn fun drive and beautifully decked out. I'm tickled pink, and relieved that I'm not getting up to cavalier tomorrow morning.

Just gettin ready to take off for Ottawa, Montreal and New York with Heather.
Just finished Advanced Trauma too. ATLS is great and it's nice to have, even though being able to put that stuff into practice I'm sure doesn't just come with the card. The hard part is that all that simple algorithmic ACLS stuff gets shredded as you try to control bleeders, spines, bones and facial smashes. GT.

Emerg.....what can I say. Old and confused or young and angry, those are the patients. The schedule is sweet though!
Just to sympathize with my patients a little better, I've broken my finger. I don't recommend it, in fact taking and following the advice of POMD would have sufficed.
Finally, I'm taking my vacation in October - Heather and I are going to Montreal, Quebec and New York for a bit, should be damn cool.
BTW, despite what the movies say, Heathers are great, if you have the means, I strongly suggest picking one up.

Holy crap. Residency started off with a beating....just finished 5 in 7 call, and though it's home call that made for about 120 hours in the hospital. damn. 3 normal work weeks for $5/hr.
love it.
Actually though, surgery is pretty damn fun. The cases are cool and all over the map and the people I work with are awesome. It's great to be working again too.....sort of.
Anyway, that's the update. I'm off to get a little sloppy at the bar, sleep, drink, eat etc.....

Happy Canada Day! Have a great day of bbq-ing, fireworking and rioting.
It's the end of the good life......Had an awesome break even though I didn't get in all the things I wish I could've. Didn't make it too the coast, and only had one short trip to the mountains. On the flip side, daily morning golf was a dream come true.
As for work....I'm starting on pediatric surgery - not completely sure how I feel about that - ask me after a few cases.
As for condo stuff......it's not so good.
To my friends - don't consider a new project from Worthington properties for even a millisecond. They're idiots.
To my enemies - Worthington properties rules. Very organized, efficient and forthwith.
Good luck to all my former classmates and congratulations on the new jobs!

Still a little shell shocked from the exams and the whole idea of finishing school, but the time off to hang out certainly helps. I'm working on getting a place to live downtown for the start of residency which is damn exciting but at the same time not exactly a cakewalk. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to having everyone over for a pint or two as soon as I'm set up.
Looking forward to a poker tournament at the palace casino on Tuesday......$25 buy in, 55 people, hold'em, top 6 make money. If it goes well, I'll be posting the details. On the other hand, I may be pretty quiet about the whole thing ;).

Hmmmmm. So that "pesky little licensing exam" turned out to be much like that pesky little fish in Jaws. damn. The good side is that all of the people I've spoken to feel exactly the same way about it. Still there is little consolation given the stakes. damn. Have to wait until June 24 to find out the grades.
On the lighter side, regardless of how the exam went we now have 6 weeks set on simmer before being tossed into the broiler. A little golf, a little manhattan, a little condo and a little visiting around western Canada are all in the recipe.
Kish, Kelly and Chad see you soon. The Calgary crew, I'll see you sooner.
Oh yeah, just found out too that some of the pages on my site don't come out too well in Firefox. workin' on it.
