The mandate for the Prince Takamado Japan Centre for Teaching and Research
is first and foremost to provide excellence in the teaching of Japanese
language and culture to future professionals in a variety of fields (humanities,
social sciences, fine arts, business, education, engineering, science,
health sciences).
In this context there are five special areas of concentration:

to promote Japanese language, linguistics, and literary teaching and research;

to provide opportunities for interdisciplinary study and research which calls
upon knowledge of Japanese language, culture, and/or Japanese Studies
e.g. economics, history, anthropology, fine arts, business, politics);

to prepare professional teachers at the elementary, secondary, post-secondary,
and continuing education levels in the delivery of programs in Japanese
language and culture;
-
to encourage research for the development of new curriculum, teaching methods,
delivery systems and models for the dissemination of Japanese language,
culture, and/or Japanese Studies; and
-
to become the focus of a network of expertise in these areas.
