Announcements

The THIRD ANNUAL PIMS Fluid Dynamics Summer School will be held from May 27 - June 8, 2001.

  • Application deadline is February 15, 2001
  • Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by email before March 15, 2001
  • This year's summer school will be fully attended by 18 participants
  • The schedule for the summer school is now available.
  • The lecture' schedule is also available.
  • The abstracts of the invited speakers are available.
  • Those who wish may meet in the foyer of Lister Hall at 6pm, Sunday May 27. The group will walk from there to the restaurant, Yannis, perhaps with a detour through the university. Everyone will converge on Yannis at 7pm.
  • New (June 21): Photos of the summer school are available.

Description

The University of Alberta offers an enriched learning environment in which the theoretical, experimental and computational aspects of fluid dynamics are synthesized.

Participants will attend a comprehensive series of lectures, and will be given hands-on experience performing and analyzing experiments in the Environmental and Industrial Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, as well as running numerical simulations using research- level codes.

Topics will include fluid dynamics fundamentals, industrial and environmental flows, geophysical fluid dynamics, turbulence modelling and computational fluid dynamics. Subjects will be taught at a graduate level.

Applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • one statement of interest (describing in one page your academic background and research interests)
  • one letter of reference
