Announcements

You can now see pictures of Paul and others at the Symposium.

The all-day meeting celebrating the work of Paul Linden will be held on Saturday December 8, 2007 on the campus of the University of California, San Diego in the CSE Auditorium. Note that some versions of the campus map are outdated: best to go to this map and type CSE into the search index. (The green circle drawn on the original map is correct.)

The dinner and talk are at Rock Bottom, 8980 Villa La Jolla Drive, about a 15 minute walk from meeting.

Description

This meeting will feature a series of talks highlighting Paul Linden's past and continuing contributions together with the ongoing research of his contemporaries in fields where his work has been particularly influential: double diffusive convection, gravity currents, mixing in stratified fluids, natural ventilation and rotating stratified flows. There will be opportunities to reflect on Paul's impact as colleague, mentor and friend during a lunchtime banquet and at an informal dinner reception.

Application and Registration

Registration will take place on site. We have done our best to minimize costs for lunch and refreshments, but will ask that participants contribute the following:

Registration fees will not include dinner costs, which will be at Rock Bottom Restaurant. Individuals are asked to cover their own costs for this meal.

Accommodation and Parking

A limited number of rooms have been blocked at the Residence Inn at a rate of $149/night for two nights arriving Friday, Dec 7 and departing Sunday, Dec 9. To get the reduced rate, mention the `Linden Symposium'.

The hotel, situated at 8901 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, is a short walk off campus from UCSD.

Rooms can be booked at this rate while available and no later than November 7. Book by internet or phone 1-858-587-1770.

On Saturday parking is free in B and S lots and at designated parking areas. The Warren Parking lot in north campus is closest to the symposium site. Also try the Gilman Parking Structure. These are circled in orange on the campus map.
